His First Snow

On the 21st of November, we had our first snowfall of the winter. I had not been excited about it at first. Then, I remember that baby boy had not had  a chance to play in it. Last year he was an arm baby and could only look at it. He had no idea what it was. Where I am from, it was very rare we got snow and when we did, the entire state had to shut down. No equipment, poor preparation… they just could not handle it. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed those days of no school or work.

Now that we are in cold country, as I like to call it, I am trying my hardest to make the best of it. The first year was fun because we came at the end of winter. Our first full winter here was the coldest they had had in a while (windchill of 50 below zero). Oh how that scared me. It did teach me to be prepared though. My daughter’s school has recess as long as the temperature is above zero.

Back to baby boy…

He saw the snow from the window and was so ready to go outside. It was our first time dressing a toddler in snow gear so it was rough. I tried to get most of my gear on first so we would be ready to hit the door once he was ready. The snow overalls were the easiest to put on and his coat too. The boots were a different story. It took me w few days to decide on a pair and if I had known his dad’s boots were Polo, I would have gotten those since he has fared well with them in the snow. Instead I got the Timberlands, and the narrow neck of the boot just made it hard to get them on. I ended up trying a thinner pair of socks and it was better. His feet were still nice and toasty when we came back inside, so the boots served their purpose.

He loved being out there so much. He stomped around as much as he could. He even laid in the snow with his big sister trying to make a snow angel. I do need to find him some gloves though. I had a temporary solution for him but he kept his hands up in his coat most of the time. Even though it was super cold that day, we had a lot of fun outside together.
