Challenged Myself

So… 6 months has passed since my last blog makeover… and like the creature of habit I am, I have changed it again. I promise I won’t touch it again…really… lol! Does anyone really care about my promise? Probably not! I just get in this mode and it seems like it happens every 6 months and I need to change things around. I used to do the same thing with hair dye, but since I have stopped doing that I had to put that energy somewhere…I guess.

The design is still pretty clean, minimal … something like that and I love it even more. I have been loving the more modern, minimal, magazine style themes. The ones that really play with black, gray and white and just have a pinch of color. Not sure what to call it but that is what I had in mind. I figure my photos and scrapbook pages have more than enough color to make up for any I might think I am missing.

Anyway… on to the topic of today’s post… I have been trying to “challenge” myself more in my scrapbooking. I tend to be very routine and like for things to be a certain way. It is not often I go outside of my comfort zone. I have yet to master using templates, art journaling, hybrid or any of that fun stuff. I have dabbled and some things just did not turn out how I wanted. When I saw the new “Think Outside the Box” challenges for June at Sweet Shoppe, I knew I had to do something different from my norm. I pulled from my digital scrapbooking supplies and from some textures I had found free online more than a year ago. Here is a link to the challenge and here is my page I created:

The following were used to create this page:

  • That Guy + Celebrate Today- Erica Zane
  • Gelato Stars/Circles/Chevrons/Triangles – Just Jaimee
  • font: I love me some Stephanie – Darcy Baldwin

Once I had completed my page, I flattened the image and duplicated it and ran a ‘Render >> Lighting Effects” filter in Photoshop. I dropped the opacity of that layer down to about 30 or 40%. Then I ran the free PS action “Smile” from the “Eclectic” set from My Four Hens Photography, and changed its opacity to about 25 – 30%. Those two together are what I used to creating the “lighting” on my page. The past few pages I have shared, I have done the same thing. I really like the result. I have started to play more with my photo actions on my digital pages. It’s fun and just adds a little something to it… makes it feel more finished.

That is all from me today. I am excited that True Blood is back for its final season… so my night should go pretty well after this….or I hope. Thanks for visiting!!!
