So, I started trying this whole scrapbooking thing back in 2007 when I was pregnant with my daughter. The more I got into it, the more I got hooked. My first attempt was using an album collection I picked up at a local retailer. I had printed photos and was ready to go. That was actually more difficult than I thought it would be. Then, I discovered digital and the ability to get the idea out of my head and onto a (digital) canvas was much easier than with actual paper. Plus, by that time, I was a new mom and had nowhere to keep all of those paper goodies Fast forward to now and I am completely digital and still loving it. I have started to collect paper supplies again, but have not really dived into yet. I plan to change that this summer though.
With digital, lately I have been into trying out different overlays that give paper a more crumpled or wrinkled look. It is taking some practice to get it just right but so far I love how it turns out. My favorite overlays are these by Valorie Wibbens at The Lilypad. I cannot stop using them!

One thing I love about these overlays is that Valorie (the designer) has included PDF instructions. So even if you have not experimented much with Photoshop layers and blend modes, you will still be able to achieve the look. For me, it just adds more dimension to a page. In digital, even with shadowing, all straight papers does not feel realistic and that is what I crave to see in my pages more now. Every now and then I will leave things as is, but more and more I find myself experimenting with overlays, lighting effects, and even photo actions to give my page the look I want.
