Father’s Day

Father’s Day was always a big thing at our house when I was younger. My mom would make a big dinner and we would give my dad gifts and try not to pester him for the day. I can remember helping to pick out ties, suits and mugs with “dad” themed messages. I am very grateful for my father. He has taught me a lot. Over the years there was one saying he has always told me: “You can catch more flies with honey than vinegar.” I am laughing as a I typed that out because I actually had  a more colorful word in mind than ‘catch.’ Guess I still need to be reminded…lol!

A few weeks ago my daughter and I got out my scrapbook supplies and decided to make cards for her dad, Denard. She was so excited and almost told him about our little project. For the cards, I had a set of blank heavy weight note cards to use. This is my first time trying this so I was little hesitant about what or what not to use. I chose these supplies to start and printed out various sizes & colors of the title:

  • Mister Huey’s Color Mist –
  • Mister Huey’s Color Mist –
  • Mister Huey’s Color Mist –
  • Prima-
  • American Crafts –
  • Wausau Paper – Metallics Cardstock – 12 x 12

I will admit, at this point, I was certain that digital scrapbooking is much easier. I can just grab what I want and start placing it on the page. I cut and move around things as I go. With tangible items before me, I kind of had to plan out where I wanted to put things. This part was probably the hardest for me because I did not have a picture in mind of how I wanted the card to look. I knew I wanted to use blue and yellow items and absolutely, no flowers. Hard for me to put flowers on things for a guy especially when I am not a huge fan of flowers for myself.

I and used the paper trimmer to cut a few things. I love so I had to add a bit of that somewhere. A few weeks ago, I got these cool, and added those too. I am happy  with how it turned out.

The other supplies used to create the card include:

  • American Crafts – Pebbles –
  • Lawn Fawn –
  • Simple Stories –
  • Fiskars –

My little lady Aida put a lot of hard work into her card too.  :) I wrote down the message she wanted and she copied it onto the card. I tried to tell her to be watchful of where she places her letters when she is writing, but of course, she did not want to listen to me.

She drew the cutest little picture of herself and her dad. Afterwards, she made sure to let me know that I was not included in the picture because it was for Father’s Day and I am not a father. All I could do was laugh and say “okay, sweetie.”

I hope that the special father in our home enjoys his day. I remember when I had to go back to work and he kept her during the day at home. I would call as soon as I thought they were awake to see if all was okay. I just know some of my phone calls were ignored, but I could not help it. After a while, I knew she was just fine and he was taking good care of her. I had no reason to worry. Now, these two are like one in the same- playing video games and laughing at the same jokes. I love to see them together.
